The area covers two municipalities, which, according to the last official census from 2013, had 2,029 (municipality of Kalinovik) and 8,990 (municipality of Gacko) inhabitants. Considering the estimated value of upper Neretva River as well as the lack of data about said values, CfE has conclude that it would be very important to conduct the biological scientific research in the area of upper Neretva to determine the existence of important and high valuable species with the aim to properly evaluate it from biodiversity perspective and create enabling conditions for its long-term protection. Outcomes: · Local stakeholders are informed about the project activities, support the protection designation process and are detriment to participate in future activities connected to durable protection of upper Neretva River. · Biodiversity values of the upper Neretva River are researched, compiled and assessed. · Biodiversity values of the upper Neretva River have been recognized and accepted by authorities relevant for its long-term protection and management (Ministry and the Institute). · The Ministry and the Institute are ready and willing to pursue further steps towards protection of the upper Neretva River. · Information about values of upper Neretva River has reached a wide audience on local, national and regional level. |
