Construction of bicycle parking in Banja Luka (2009 -…)

The initiative to raise funds for the construction of the first bicycle parking lots with a canopy in Banja Luka was launched by the Center for the Environment in 2009.

After the signing the Agreement on Cooperation with the University of Banja Luka and the competition for the conceptual design of the parking lot, in 2012 the necessary funds were provided for the construction of a parking lot at four locations within the University campus.

Shortly after the construction on campus, an initiative was launched to build a bicycle parking lot in front of the Administrative Center of the Government of Republika Srpska. After a year of negotiations and advocacy, two bicycle parking lots were set up according to the same conceptual design.

These parking lots are full of bicycles every day and there is a great need for new parking lots, and through this initiative, the Center for Environment continues to initiate the construction of new bicycle parking lots in other locations.

The CfE believes that every public institution in BiH should invest in cycling infrastructure such as parking lots for cyclists, thus encouraging citizens to use bicycles as a means of transportation.
