Representatives of the Center for Environment at the Visitor Center Pecka held a working lunch with journalists today with the aim of introducing and drawing media attention to burning issues in the field of biodiversity and nature protection, and the threat coming from construction of small hydropower plants (SHPPs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The event is part of the activities of the “Eco-BiH” project funded by the European Union and the activities of the Regional Biodiversity Network (BioNET) supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

After a short presentation from the Visitor Center Pecka, the BioNET network and the Eco-BiH project as well as the introduction, which were all held in the Center, a trip to the Pliva and Janj rivers was organized for the participants with maximum compliance with all current safety measures related to the COVID-19 epidemic.

On these rivers, where new protected areas and tourism development are planned, the journalists had the opportunity to visit the locations where SHPPs (Pliva) were built, and the locations where their construction is planned, and get acquainted with the issues related to these topics, as well as with the initiative of the Center for Environment to protect the upper course of the Sana River.
