The concert for the preservation the Balkan rivers, where the Partibrejkers and Darko Rundek & Ekipa will perform, organised by the Center for Environment as part of the regional campaign “Save the Blue Heart of Europe”, will be held on November 11th in the Sport Hall Borik in Banja Luka, starting at 8 p.m. Entrance to the concert is free.

Before the concert in Banja Luka, Zoran Kostić Cane from the Partibrejkers spoke about the importance of protecting rivers, the campaign for river protection and other topics.

Although we have had some progress in the last year when it comes to environmental actions, Cane says that it all looks like the grass has been cut a little and there is less garbage.

“Then another day comes, I am surprised and see that the grass is not cut and there is garbage like before. When we talk about ecology, it is not the matter of an individual, it is the matter of all people. This is what we live on, what was given to us and what we need to hand over to those behind us in the best possible condition. You will not get ecology, you will get oncology”, said Cane.

He emphasizes that we get the water we drink from rivers.

“We have to protect the rivers and not pollute them.” Water is freedom. Everyone should get involved in river protection campaigns, so that people know that they must not throw anything into the river, that the river is their close relative, that they cannot live without the river, it is water, they will have nothing to drink,” said Cane.

When asked what specifically encouraged him to join this campaign, he pointed out that it is what is constantly in front of his eyes, namely the stains on the rivers, the garbage that is thrown away and the environment that people do not care about at all.

“Man behaves as if he is not a part of the entire nature and violating nature in any way causes problems to him. People should realize that those rivers belong to them, that they are not some foreign body, that they live with that water, that nature and that air. To be a part of it, just to realize that without it there is no life,” said Cane.

He points out that everyone can already today not throw garbage on the street, treat their environment as if it belongs to them, that it is not something that is imposed, to build awareness that everything they throw on the street can be thrown in the trash can.

Cane says that all our rivers are beautiful and then you can’t understand that that beauty is constantly being destroyed.

“The government and politicians must also get involved in solving this problem, because they have the power.” They have to get involved somehow. Everyone must work together, the government and the opposition. A consensus must be reached regarding ecology, and that is ‘’let’s protect nature’’, because that’s how we also protect people. “For these generations to come, who knows how they will live, with bad air, bad water and bad land,” he pointed out.

He points out that the region we live in is beautiful, but that unfortunately we’re cutting the branch we live on.

When it comes to the big concert taking place on November 11th in Banja Luka, Cane announces the repertoire they always play and they’ll do their best.

At the end, he says: “People, watch what you’re doing. You don’t have any other rivers!’’

The “Save the Blue Heart of Europe” campaign, within which the concert is organised, was launched by the European organisations EuroNatur and Riverwatch, in cooperation with local partners in the Balkans, and it is coordinated in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Center for Environment from Banja Luka.

Darko Rundek and Zoran Kostić Cane (Partibrejkers) are one of the first artists in the region who raised their voice to save the rivers of the Balkans and joined the “Artists for Balkan Rivers” campaign, which aims to spread awareness about the alarming plans for the construction of over 3,000 small hydroelectric power plants on rivers in the wider territory of the Balkans, of which over 400 are planned or already under construction in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
