Work of Nina Stanarević

Nina Stanarević from Banjaluka is the winner of the contest for the conceptual design of a product with a crane motif published by Center for Environment. The works of Mirela Ledenko from Glamoč, Janja Bijelić from Šamac and Petar Mihić from Mostar were also awarded as part of the contest. The work that won the first prize will be purchased in several copies in the amount of 600BAM.

The goal of this call was to promote Livanjsko polje, which is the largest flooding karst field in the world, and it used to be specific because cranes nested here. Due to negative anthropogenic impact in the field, the “bird of the sun”, as the crane was called in Egyptian mythology, stopped nesting in this area.

In the competition, preference was given to the materials that are home-made, natural and responsibly sourced. Nina made a notebook with a crane motif using a technique called “coptic”, i.e. Coptic visible binding (not hidden under the cover) without using glue (only waxed cotton thread was used for binding). Coptic binding originates from the 12th century and originated with the ethno-religious Orthodox group Copts in Egypt. With changes and modifications, it is still used today. The inner paper is 100% cotton paper. Also, the notebook contains strips of accent paper “Color Style recycling” recycled paper. The sheath is made of oak and was obtained as leftover material from a carpenter.

“The motto and guiding idea under which Studio Tisa operates is to consciously use as less raw materials as possible. I try to use carpentry scraps and let the piece of wood itself be the inspiration for the product,” said Nina. The works created in her Studio Tisa are available at this link.

Although at first was planned to award three works with a purchase in the amount of 600BAM for the first, 400BAM for the second and 200BAM for the third place, the expert jury divided the second and third prizes into three works that will be purchased from the author in the amount of 200BAM.
