Karst poljes of BiH: Winners of the photo competition announced
As part of the third photo contest aiming to promote the unique beauty of the karst poljes of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the best photographs have been chosen in two categories: “Karst Poljes and People” and “Indigenous Plants and Fungi of Karst Poljes.” The most successful photographers have also won valuable prizes.
A total of 27 domestic and international authors responded to the call to participate, submitting 170 photographs taken in 18 karst poljes. Their task was to showcase the lives and work of people in the karst fields, as well as the beauty of the plant life in these areas.
All award-winning photos will be presented at exhibitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and potentially abroad during the years 2024-2025.

The best photos were selected by an independent five-member jury, composed of Josip Ledinščak (Croatia), Geza Farkaš (Serbia), and representatives of partner organizations in the project OD Naše ptice (Bosnia and Herzegovina), EuroNatur (Germany), and the Center for Environment (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country rich in natural beauty, with a special place reserved for its karst fields.
Over the past three years, more than 400 photos have been submitted to the photo contest, with 50 participants.
The photo contest was realized within the project “Sustainable Future for the Freshwater Ecosystem of Livanjsko Polje in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” jointly implemented by the Ornithological Society Naše ptice, the Center for Environment, and EuroNatur, financially supported by the initiative DIMFE (Donors’ Initiative for Mediterranean Freshwater Ecosystems).
