The Center for Environment has organised in the town of Šamac, an exhibition of photographs taken on the Bardača wetland and the Tišina protected area, devoted to February 2nd, the International Day of Wetland Protection. The exhibition was open from February 3rd to 18th, and the curious could visit it in the “Stari sat” gallery. On the occasion of this date, we have so far organized two exhibitions in Banja Luka, so this is the first time that the citizens of Šamac have the opportunity to see wetlands from the perspective of our photographers, Nikola Pećanac and Aleksandar Škorić. In addition to photographs, the exhibition included collages created by the joint work of students from the Catholic School Center from Banja Luka.

“Perhaps the biggest problem in the creation of these photos is precisely this winter period, when the least amount of activity and life is visible to the eye, which is exactly what we photographers are looking for. There were various motives, unfortunately we did not manage in that short period of time to record everything that wetlands have to offer, and here you can see some of the birds that stay in the wetlands and marsh habitat in the winter,” said Nikola Pećanac, one of the authors of the exhibited photos.

“With the exhibition, we want to point out the importance of wetland habitats, not only for biodiversity, but also for people’s lives, both for carbon storage, protection against floods, and lately the tourist potential has been highlighted due to the possibility of bird watching,” says Nikola Kurija, Center for Environment.

“During the two previous years we have celebrated this day in Banja Luka, but this year we wanted to come to Šamac again, to meet with colleagues with whom we collaborated, with whom we worked on the creation of a management plan for the protected area, which we, as the Center, also financially supported, and in some way to promote the value of protected areas in Šamac, specifically the wetlands,” said Aleksandra Anja Dragomirović from the Center for Environment.

The exhibition was visited by many citizens of Šamac, and the opening was accompanied by local media. The implementation was carried out in cooperation with the municipality of Šamac, under the auspices of the MedWet initiative and OFB.
