In Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in other European countries, from September 16 to 22, was held one of the most popular events related to urban mobility, European Mobility Week.
Seven cities and municipalities from Bosnia and Herzegovina applied for this year’s European Mobility Week: Bijeljina, Sarajevo, Vlasenica, Vogošća, Mostar, Zavidovići and Banja Luka. This year, a total of 2,649 cities and municipalities from 47 countries participated. Most of them are from Spain, 478, and from Austria, 476.
The theme of this year’s campaign was “Better connections”, and the motto was “Mix and move!”.
The European Mobility Week ended on September 22 with the celebration of World Car Free Day. During the campaign, local authorities were encouraged to use this period to test innovative planning measures, promote new infrastructure and technologies, measure air quality and collect feedback from the public.
The national coordinator of this campaign was the “Center for Environmental” from Banja Luka, which, in cooperation with the City of Banja Luka and with the support of the EU Info Center, organized this year’s Banja Luka bicycle ride.
In Sarajevo, after a two-year break, the popular “Giro di Sarajevo” bicycle ride was returned to the streets of the city on October 18. “Giro di Sarajevo” attracts thousands of cycling fans and invited all citizens to this year’s ride.
The city of Mostar was formally registered for the European Mobility Week for the first time, and in cooperation with the Sports Association of the City of Mostar and numerous associations and organizations, this year also participated in the preparation of numerous activities on the topic of “sustainable mobility”.
In Bijeljina, Sunday, October 18, was reserved for the “20 for health” bike ride, where the participants rode from the city square to the Eco-visitor center “Jezera”. On that day, the city center was open only to pedestrians.
