Over the past weekend, the third edition of the Autumn Bazaar, organized by the Center for Environmentwas held at the DKC Incel premises. This year, the bazaar program was expanded with the participation of friends from PopArt Market, who showcased and sold their handmade products.

“The Bazaar is just one of the activities by the Center, dedicated to waste reduction and addressing the problems caused by waste. The Bazaar is conceived not only as an opportunity for waste reduction through exchange/donation but also as a community-building event, which is equally important. Socializing, exchanging thoughts and ideas, and building connected communities is key to all positive social changes. The same neoliberal capitalism that has resulted in a consumerist society hungry for new things like so-called fast fashion and unnecessary electronic devices, even at the cost of environmental and human life destruction, also causes increasing alienation due to fixation and obsession around the material ,” said Igor Kalaba, from the Center for Environment.

The lively atmosphere and excellent music were provided by DJs Tijana ILMN and Gaga. Following the Bazaar’s closure, a screening of the documentary film “A Plastic Surgery – Coca Cola’s Hidden Secrets” took place. This film addresses false promises and media campaigns through which the company conceals the damage caused by the packaging of their products.

“The film emphasizes that recycling, although a positive process and part of the response to waste pollution, without intensive oversight can be used solely as a marketing tool, while the damage to the environment and human health continues to grow,” added Kalaba.

This marks the fifth Bazaar, including three autumn editions and two spring editions. The Center plans to continue this activity, inviting everyone interested to join the upcoming spring gathering. Additionally, a workshop on DIY recycling and upcycling will be announced soon.
