First mural of Center for Environment was officially presented today in Banja Luka under a name “Flowers of the future”. It is placed on the wall of the building located on the crossroad of Ivana Franje Jukića and Kralja Alfonsa XIII, across restaurant Trezor. Mural has the goal to indicate on plastic pollution and next to it has a table with basic information which explain the message of the mural.

“Plastic is in every aspect of life of a modern human, and its justification in our lives is rarely questioned (especially single use plastic products). Are we even aware of harm that plastic does to the living world, especially for humans, because toxic chemicals from plastic can lead to hormone imbalance, deposition of micro and nano plastic in internal organs etc.? For this reason, we hope that this mural is going to inspire people to think about the plastic that is all around them, for them to get educated about this problem and to change their relationship with plastic, which is now either positive or indifferent. We must not stay indifferent, because pace of plastic production and its harm for environment is alarming, and changes in our lifestyle and in ways of production take almost the same time as it takes for plastic to decompose.”, Milica Končar from Center for Environment pointed out.

Artist Nataša Konjević – Konjo Illustration, who painted the mural, showed replacement of nature with plastic in symbolic bouquet of flowers from plastic items, showing todays practice of throwing out the natural resources and their replacement with plastic.

Tenants of the building, just like the City of Banjaluka, welcomed this mural with positive reactions.

“When we have the opportunity to see a mural like this, with exceptionally strong and important message, which is very important for society in these times of climate change, then we can say that importance of this piece is even bigger.”, said Milada Šukalo, counselor of the City of Banjaluka and she noted that Banjaluka will paint even more walls of the residental buildings in the future.

Mural is realized as a part of BLess Waste project, whose goal is to advance waste management in Banjaluka. Project is realized by Center for Environment with support of the British embassy.
